The Hertz Corporation Director Corporate Communications in Uxbridge, United Kingdom

General Responsibilities

Direct the development and day-to-day execution of external communications strategies and public relations programs for Hertz International. The role will suit a dynamic and positive leader who can create and lead the executive of cohesive integrated communications plans to drive the reputation and growth of the company and its brands.

The Communications Director is also a member of the global communications team and contributes to the overall global communications and corporate responsibility strategy and deliverables. As part of a multifaceted team, the role will include some internal communications responsibilities including support of senior executives in Europe/International.

Key result areas:

  • Develop and execute various public relations and corporate responsibility strategies, programs and materials to facilitate awareness, understanding and buy-in among key stakeholders. Includes PR agency management.

  • Work closely with Marketing to create and execute highly effective public relations strategies that support business objectives.

  • Identify and build relationships with important stakeholders including the media and influencers to drive an accurate and positive reputation for Hertz and its brands.

  • In partnership with the Communications Manager, manage the day-to-day reactive media inquiries and develop proactive media relations plans.

  • Remain externally focused, bringing insights to company leaders to inform strategy and execution.

  • Provide communications counsel for members of the Hertz International Senior Management team, including operations management and heads of functions.

  • Effectively lead communications around occasional crisis situations or reputational risks by working closely with stakeholders and providing authoritative strategies and execution.

  • Write, edit and direct content for various communications channels including press releases, social media posts and executive communications.

  • Assist in the communications function’s operational imperatives including the departmental strategy, policy development, project reporting, performance standards, process improvement and optimisation.

  • Serve as an International communications representative on cross-functional, company-wide initiatives.

Professional Experience:

A minimum of 8 - 10 years of communications program development and management in a corporate, International setting.


  • How to develop and execute programs, messaging and deliverables for external communications, executive communications, public relations, corporate social responsibility, crisis communications, and reputation management.

  • Ideally equally well-rounded in both internal and external communications.

  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of communications and PR channels.

  • Knowledge of the travel industry is desirable.


  • Superlative writing, editing and presentation development skills. Includes ability to ghost write for executives and adapt writing style for diverse audiences and communications channels

  • Ability to develop strategic communications plans for an international setting, and deliver results in fast changing business environments

  • Ability to provide strategic communications counsel to spokespeople and senior leaders

  • Strong relationship builder with excellent influential, interpersonal and networking skills

  • Ability to engage and deploy cross-functional resources to achieve communications objectives

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking

  • PR agency management experience

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments to strict deadlines within a highly demanding business environment

  • Highly self-motivated and directed with an attention to detail and strong customer service focus

  • Resourceful in overcoming obstacles and relentless in driving execution

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and to engender trust

  • Knowledge of the travel industry preferred but not required

Educational Background:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications or related field.
