The Hertz Corporation Vice President Fleet Management in Uxbridge, United Kingdom

General Responsibilities

The VP, Fleet Management will lead, guide and direct the fleet vehicle management, maintenance, and disposition policies and processes, with specific focus on remarketing and sales of fleet vehicles, and is responsible for fully understanding all relevant KPIs critical for achieving sales goals.

This will include Operational planning andresponsibility for coordinating and providing overall strategic leadership to the Fleet Management Program ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, vehicle and workplace regulations.


  • Develop an acquisition and remarketing strategy by identifying the best channels with the highest ROS and negotiating agreements with the respective OEMs

  • Order vehicles with the OEM and provide model and trim level recommendations to the business and operations team, based on current and future market values including mix and multi-brand strategies

  • Ensure all receiving, reconditioning, inspection, sales and release activities related to the vehicle inventory portfolio are completed properly and in a timely manner.

  • Assess and identify necessary areas for improvement of vehicle management and maintenance procedures

  • Partner with country field operations leadership to manage all aspects of the in-fleeting, on-going maintenance, repair and de-fleeting activities

  • Maintain relations with other companies, including remarketers, auction companies, and any others that can help the company achieve remarketing goals

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on trade intake operations including participating in calculating accurate vehicle values, offers and offer adjustments as well as establishing and supporting the vehicle trade and validation procedures conducted by country operations

  • Manage and ensure that reported inventory levels, and sales results are accurate and properly recorded.

  • Oversees the scheduling and transport of all inbound and outbound inventory and ensure vehicles are transported in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Guide and direct all reconditioning and repair activities required in order to ensure vehicles are ready for sale.

  • Assist in processing auction arbitration requests within documented time frames specific to auction venues.

  • Work cooperatively with all in-house and external partners to ensure the effectiveness of fleet inventory management, maintenance and disposition activities.

  • Understand and contribute to RAC operating procedures, including expert use of the required systems and technologies, with respect to fleet disposition and maintenance operations.

  • Provide direction, leadership and management oversight of fleet acquisition, disposition and remarketing employees.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned or as necessary to achieve goals and expected outcomes of the position

  • Develops and implements fleet acquisition strategies, maintenance and repair programs to meet the company’s operating needs and assure smooth and cost-efficient operations to drive business results

  • Identifies opportunities to reduce cost, maximize efficiency and increase productivity.

  • Monitors fleet utilization metrics against established goals and works with Country General Managers to improve style mix and quantities as needed to meet multi-brand demand

  • Monitors, oversees and provides direction to the Country fleet managers to achieve key strategic growth initiatives

  • Oversees fleet payments and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and follow up as needed

  • Contributes input to financial model to improve forecast accuracy and directions of the company’s business, as well as fleet reinvestment and asset retirement

  • Works closely with Country Managers to ensure records are sustained for maintenance, inspections, warranties, licenses and registrations


  • Operating plan targets – Sales revenue, Gross Margin, Profit Margin, EBITDA

  • Fleet management – fleet maintenance and repair costs


  • Reports to the President, Europe

  • Frequent and on-going interface with RAC Country leadership team and members of their teams

  • Frequent and on-going interface with finance, revenue management and marketing teams


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years experience in automotive remarketing and/or automotive wholesale

  • At least 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in automotive sales, remarketing, and/or automotive wholesale

  • Recent car rental industry experience, with focused experience in fleet acquisition and remarketing, a plus

  • Fleet management/logistics/disposition experience, a plus

  • Prior supervisory and team building experience, preferred

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

  • General business, and car rental or automotive industry acumen

  • Presentation skills

  • Teamwork/Team Collaboration orientation

  • Project management

  • Mobile, ability to travel frequently and effectively work virtually

  • Driving – must have a valid driver’s license
